Frequently Asked Questions

What is functional medicine?

Functional medicine is an approach to medical practice that falls under the umbrella of integrative medicine.

Functional medicine uses a science based approach to assess the root cause of symptoms and chronic disease processes. Understanding potential clinical imbalances through the lens of physiology and function helps to address symptoms and related disease processes. Functional medicine can involve treatment of mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of wellness and focuses on taking a holistic and patient centered approach when treating patients. Treatment plans include a lifestyle medicine component which focuses on nutrition, movement and modifiable lifestyle factors.
How do Health Meets Wellness medical practices differ from a conventional doctor?
At Health Meets Wellness our medical practices are grounded in evidence based internal medicine, which is how a conventional general practitioner practices. However, we differ from conventional medical practices as we blend functional medicine practices with internal medicine. Our visits focus on root cause analysis and we take a more holistic approach to health and wellness. Our care plans all include a lifestyle medicine component which addresses nutrition and exercise.
Do I still need a primary care physician if I am seen for a consult?
Our annual concierge medicine membership package includes primary care so we can function as your primary care provider. If you choose a 3 or 6 month membership you will need to have a primary care provider outside of the practice.
Can you review my previous records at my consult?
Yes, if they are provided prior to the visit.
Do I need a consult to see other providers in the space?
Yes, patients need membership to the practice to see our providers. Membership includes access to all of the providers on the care team.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes
Do you accept insurance?
Insurance can be used for medications, labs and additional testing. Membership fees are outside of insurance.
